Rylan Williams hates conferences too many people, not enough routine, and way too much interaction with strangers. When he gets stuck in a broken elevator with Miller Jones, the kid who fell asleep in his lecture, he figures things can’t get worse. Then Rylan realizes he’s the same guy he just spent an hour perving over from afar.

Rylan wants to await rescue in silence, but Miller insists on conversation, or at least banter. But just because they don’t get along doesn’t mean they don’t have chemistry, and Rylan breaks all his rules about intimacy for a one-time-only conference hookup. He’ll probably never see Miller again anyway. So of course, two months later Miller shows up at Rylan’s office, having just been hired to work on a new computer program—with Rylan.

And Rylan thought being stuck in an elevator with him was bad.

Soon Rylan and Miller learn that they get along best when they take out their frustrations in the bedroom. Their arrangement goes against everything Rylan believes in, but the rules are simple Don’t stay overnight. Don’t tell anyone. And don’t fall in love.

4.5- Full Review: http://watch-and-word-society.blogspot.com/2014/07/book-review-hard-feelings.html

After a surprisingly busy week, I needed something light to read. I had downloaded Hard Feelings on my kindle, but I hadn't added it to my TBR pile yet. I was expecting something light and fluffy, but I was SO pleasantly surprised. I thought I would blow through it, but once I started it I never wanted it to end!

Let me clarify, though, this book was not a sickly sweet romance by any means. I loved the handful of angst combined with adorably delicious characters, both man and secondary, that I just wanted to hang out with. Miller was geeky and dorky and everything I wanted, but there was so much more meat to this story, and to the character of Rylan, that this story really made me think.

Rylan's social awkwardness often presents as abrasiveness, and I loved getting into his mind, and seeing how he balanced his own desires with his discomforts. There is a line where he talks about how Miller, always gregarious and easy going, doesn't push him to socialize of to be more chatty that he wants to be, but rather Miller comforts him and provides the security and acceptance he needs to feel at ease. I thought this was a great insight into people who are stressed out by social situations, and because I don't ever feel that way, it really made me think about the people I know who may struggle as Rylan does.

This story was so captivating and entertaining, and so much more than the quick, fluffy read I expected. The sex was HOT and totally added to the story and supported the characterizations.

Hard Feelings edition by Morgan James Ashlyn Kane Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I'm not into angry sex, pissed-off loving or any of the name calling in this story. I did not feel any connection between Rylan and Miller and fail to understand how they managed anything together. After trying to understand I gave up at 30% and returned it.
The bookend storyline is decent enough. Its average. Enjoyable enough to read at the time but I don't remember all that much about it a few days later.
I loved Kane and James' last collaboration, Hair of the Dog, and am was really happy to see this new book in my "recommended for you" list. It didn't disappoint. This book is fun, the dialogue witty, and the story was touching without being overly sappy. Rylan and Miller, though frustrating at times (how could they not have realized earlier...?), seemed to step off the page, with flawed but endearing personalities - and a lot of chemistry. Smokin sex scenes! They were supported by a wonderful cast of family and friends. (The scene were Rylan meets Miller's parents for the first time is priceless. Read the book for that scene alone.)

What I really appreciated about the book is that it looks at ordinary people in ordinary lives, but through great writing and great characters makes the story so engaging. To achieve this level of interest most romance writers depend on spies, crimes, abuse in a character's background, supernatural beings, etc, to make their stories interesting. But if you're a good writer you can make the romantic trials of a software developer and a closeted artist in Baltimore a truly terrific read.
I started reading this late at night thinking I could get a few chapters in before going to sleep, and I ended up reading it in one sitting. I totally fell in love with Rylan and Miller. Their 'hate-sex' relationship starts out hot, funny, and casual, but as they spend more time with each other, deeper feelings prevail, which scares both MCs since neither has had the best romantic track record.

Rylan, a GQ-esque hunk of a man, is totally lovable because despite his looks, he is socially awkward and misses cues more often than not. Although his great looks usually give him a free pass, for a time, with his partners, his surly antisocial behavior catches up with him, and they inevitably leave him. Miller, affable and outgoing, has 'over-committing' issues and is looking for an easy, no-frills let's-get-it-on-with-no-strings understanding with Rylan. It's really fun to watch these two heatedly, and suspiciously, circle around each other in the beginning, setting clear boundaries for a casual sex-only arrangement, only to blow those boundaries clear out of the water within the first week. Miller is pretty much on board the Rylan express from the very beginning, but poor Rylan is way slower on the uptake. He gets there eventually, though, and that is half the fun, after all, watching him fall unwittingly under Miller's spell. The authors did a nice job of showing signs of how Miller's feelings were changing even though the story was told from Rylan's POV. These guys are terrific in and of themselves, but truly fantastic when they're together. Their chemistry jumps off the pages and I really enjoyed their banter. And yeah, they're sexy as all get out.

The MCs' families play a great part in the story as well. The scenes wherein each meet the other's family for the first time are a hoot. I especially enjoyed Rylan's meeting with Miller's parents. I think I smiled through the whole thing. I love that both families are completely accepting of their sons, unquestionably loving both. I love the relationships the MCs have with their families.

I couldn't wait for Rylan to get a clue, and while I wanted to hit him upside the head a few times, his utter cluelessness was charming in its own way. Miller was just charming, period. I wish the epilogue was longer or showed further in the future-- I wasn't ready to close the book on these guys.

Vivid characters, great supporting cast, fun dialog. This read like a perfect rom-com to me, with some R-rated moments in just the right spots.

Highly recommend.
